# Starting a conversation

Talk to Pablo like a real sommelier — get personalized wine recommendations, food pairings, and wine education with no prior knowledge required.

Tap the **Chat** tab to open Pablo. Each time you open it, a new conversation thread is created automatically and you land directly in the chat.

## The welcome screen

Before you type anything, Pablo greets you by name and offers four shortcut prompts to get started quickly:

* **Recommend wines** — "Can you recommend some wines for me?"
* **Wine education** — "Teach me about wine basics"
* **Pairing suggestions** — "Suggest wine pairings for dinner"
* **Surprise me** — "Surprise me with something interesting about wine"

Tap any shortcut to send it immediately, or type your own message in the input bar.

## What you can ask

Pablo is your AI wine sommelier — no wine knowledge required. Ask about regions, grape varieties, producers, vintages, food pairings, serving temperatures, and more. Some examples:

* *"What should I drink with lamb chops?"*
* *"Explain the difference between Burgundy and Bordeaux"*
* *"Recommend a wine under €20 from the Rhône Valley"*
* *"What makes a wine tannic?"*

Messages stream in as Pablo responds — you don't need to wait for the full reply before reading it.

## Message limits

Each message can be up to **2,000 characters**. You have **200 messages per month** across all conversations. A warning appears in the chat when you've used 80% of your monthly allowance, and the input is disabled when the limit is reached.

See [Monthly usage & quota](/documentation/your-profile/monthly-usage-and-quota.md) for details on how limits reset and how to request more.
